It's funny how you imagine healing is going to be a bit of a linear process, even if you've spent years telling yourself (and others) that it isn't. You think you will put in the time, the work and gradually day by day you will get better. It's not like that. Getting better as a construct isn't even what you imagine it is. It's more like waves, like peeling back layers, like reconstructing who you are and how you want to be in the world. You work through and on one thing, and that brings up a different layer of something else. Occasionally, I can at least laugh about it, with the annoyance reflected in this owl's expression. Huh. Yes, here is that familiar feeling of trauma. Oh boy here we go again. #emotionalbirds
