R/P from the @FabFeministArt Instagram 3.25.18:
Inspired by this great podcast , I'm prepping to start a 100 Day project, and I decided right away I wanted the theme of my project to be Queer Women & Femmes. I plan on illustrating and writing about queer femmes, including illustrated quotes, writing a film/book review or two, and lots and lots of drawings. I've been doing some research looking for vintage photos of queer femme couples, which has been lots of fun. But I also really want to illustrate the awesome queer femmes in this moment, right now!⠀ So, here's the deal. If you're a queer femme and you'd like to be illustrated as part of my 100 Day project, send me your photograph. It needs to be clear and focused , please. Photos can be stylized or not, in groups, couples or solo (even with animals and/or plants -- I'm quite flexible!) Please understand that I will be picking photos to work with as part of a collection. I will need to make stylistic selections, and if your photo isn't picked for this project, please know it has nothing to do with you -- because you are A W E S O M E S A U C E.⠀ Queer femmes of color, disabled queer femmes, muslim queer femmes are all especially encouraged to submit photographs.⠀ If your photo is picked to be illustrated I will let you know right away AND ask for your mailing address, because once I'm done illustrating your photo, I'm gonna mail you an 8.5x11" print of the final piece.⠀ I will be starting the 100 day project in the coming weeks. For now I am trying to spread the word and get some photo submissions coming in! Please share this post with all your queer femme friends :)⠀ With love and rainbows,⠀ Callie 💖✨🌈⠀
How to submit:
Email me at calliegarp @ gmail.com
Please feel free to tell me a little bit about yourself and why you are interested in participating in the project.
By submitting your photograph, you are certifying that you have full rights to the image, and that you understand that if selected, your photo will be referenced in the designing of an illustration, which will be fully owned and copyrighted by Callie Garp. In exchange, you will be provided one 8.5x11" print of this illustration. No digital files or copies will be exchanged. The resulting illustration may be used in commercial or advertising activities in the future as they relate to the Queer Women & Femmes Project, or Fabulously Feminist in general. The resulting illustration may be submitted to other digital or print publications, gallery spaces etc.
A reminder on photo quality:
I have already received many gorgeous photos, which unfortunately I cannot use :( Please send me images that are in focus, not blurry or grainy.
The best photos will not be cropped. In other words, ideally everyone who is captured in the photo as a subject with be fully present within the frame from the waist up.

It's day *5* of the #100DaysofQueerWomenAndFemmes Project! Today's illustration is of @cabfierce , who identifies as a non-binary queer femme, and their partner Leah. I loved everything about the photo this illustration is based on, so much so that I actually asked Cee if I could illustrate it. I was thrilled when they said yes!⠀ .⠀ Normally I try to get my illustrations done a day in advance. This takes some of the edge off making the timing work for sharing on Instagram, and lets me take the evenings to draw. But last night I was so, so soooo exhausted, I couldn't finish adding the color & value structure.⠀ .⠀ My wife had walked in the door from work, took one look at me and was like, "You need to take a break." So after dinner, while I was still illustrating, she made me oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (with craisins and almonds b/c that's the only way) and when I told her I felt like my computer screen was swimming before my eyes, she told me take a break. And she was right.⠀ .⠀ So, after filling all my orders this morning, I finished up the illustration this afternoon and I really, really love it. This color palette was so much fun!⠀ .⠀ To submit your photo for a chance to be illustrated email me at calliegarp @ gmail.com / DM me on Instagram⠀⠀ By submitting your photograph, you are certifying that you have full rights to the image & that you understand that if selected, your photo will be referenced in the designing of an illustration, which will be fully owned and copyrighted by Callie Garp. Today's edition of the #100daysofqueerwomenandfemmes project was inspired by an email I received from @pj_desrochers 🌈⠀ .⠀ I had a few different ideas for how I wanted to illustrate this phrase, and if I am honest, I spent a chunk of my evening last night trying to scribble out something that worked. Alas, it was all to no avail. But this morning, I woke up and knew right away that I wanted to do something vintage-label-esque for this -- and here it is :)⠀ .⠀ I also got to play with a new font, which is always fun.⠀ .⠀ Thank you so much for the phrase motivation, PJ! I am ALWAYS looking for suggestions for Queer Femme Phrase ideas, so if you have any, please, PLEASE, P L E A S E do send them my way.⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #cheerstoqueers #cheers #queersofinstagram #queers #typographyart #queerart #feministart #illustrationoftheday #drawingaday #100dayproject #queerfemme #lgbtqart #artproject #callforsubmissions #queerpride #fabfeminist #lgbtqcommunity #queerwomen #feministartactivism #feministartists #lgbtqpride

It's day *9* of the #100daysofqueerwomenandfemmes project! Today I got to illustrate the lovely @dartricia_ , who in addition to being a badass queer femme, also serves on the board of @charisbooksandmore the Nation’s Oldest Independent Feminist bookstore. Ebony Burton @thecolorcarmine is the subject of today's #100daysofqueerwomenandfemmes illustration! ⠀ .⠀ "I'm Ebony. I'm an Oakland-born writer, designer, and theatrical technician. ... I am drawn to and driven to create works that represent the marginalized and the disenfranchised. In my work, I represent bodies deemed unpretty, minds deemed unhealthy, and identities deemed unorthodox. My primary goal is to give voice to those who often go unheard. I seek to create works that visually entice and intellectually stimulate. Works that analyze intersecting oppressions. Works that delve into the complexities of race, poverty, sex, sexuality, and mental illness, among other issues." The Day 18 illustration of the #100daysofqueerwomenandfemmes project is complete! I was so happy when Crystal Hawkins @indianajawns // @consciousmothering submitted the photo for this illustration. (FYI the photo was taken by the talented @stephstef610 who was the model for Day 10 of the project. I love when things come full circle.)⠀ .⠀ To learn more about Crystal, check out her website. This blog post hit me right in the feels: "The transition into motherhood was beautiful, but it’s also a lot of emotional work. And one thing women, especially women of color, have to do is hide their suffering. ... ... I’ve learned that one of the best things I can do for my daughter is to give her language for her emotions from a young age. To encourage her to cry when she’s sad and smile when she’s happy, and to never be afraid to be honest about what she feels inside. That vulnerability is not a sign of weakness, but of immense strength."
