In talking to so many of my neighbors and fellow parents at school pickup, I found we had similar thoughts; it's incredibly hard to keep up with our day-to-day already packed and stressful lives and also hold in our minds the onslaught of fascism not just in our country but around the world. We have the daily anxiety that no matter what, we are not doing enough. Not enough as parents, community members, home owners and pet owners and citizens of the world and human beings who believe in equity, not enough self care or rest or exercise or activism or voting or raising awareness or protesting. Not enough not enough no enough.
I came across this quote, and it reminded me that the most important thing we can do every day is to acknowledge out loud, what is happening. That is a spark, a seed and it tends to grow. Trust it. Trust that you are doing the best you can, you are doing what you can. We are not turning away from fascism, from those most vulnerable. We are taking deep breaths, and reaching out in community.
