"My whole life I’ve been battling with my body image. I come from a loving Filipino family, however there are toxic traits that are instilled in our culture. For one, I am tall so that makes me stick out from the rest of my tita’s, lolas and ate’s (aunts/grandmas/older girls in respect). Second, I love food. I love food so much that it became the only thing I ever thought about. I adored it then hated it then it consumed me instead of me consuming it. My relatives, at such a young age called me names such as “watermelon” “pregnant” and “Hoover” (after the vacuum cleaner). So I never was encouraged about losing weight, or eating better, but they just constantly knew me as the girl who ate. Then when I started working out I looked “too big” and my “brazos” (shoulders) were fat. My aunts didn’t know muscle looked big, and the number on the scale was not all fat, but they made me feel that way.
I was told by exes my butt is too small.
I was told my many that my legs are really big.
It became to the point where I started tracking calories and never feeling enough. 120 lbs wasn’t enough. 115 wasn’t enough. I wanted that thigh gap and I wanted a small waist.
I started a fitness account two months ago. I have been working out for me, and not for anyone else. For the first time ever I am starting to feel confident in my body. My girlfriend is my biggest supporter and she loves every curve and stretch mark and gets excited when i Flex my arms. 🥺 I am sitting at maybe 180 lbs (haven’t weighed myself) and I love how I look. Wow that’s crazy to say. Okay I like how i look but I almost love it!⠀
I try to tell myself it’s going to get better, and it is." - Giselle David
