Something I learned about and practice in therapy is how it is possible (and healthy) to feel multiple things at the same time. Multiple things can be true at the same time! It is ok to feel joy, happiness, contentment in your life while also feeling rage, horror and fear around what's happening in our country and our world. I teach my kiddos about this, too. Clinging to one feeling, one focal point, is just too hard to sustain. All the bits are ok and important. The hard feelings, and the good ones. Both support us in fighting for a better world for everyone.
By the way, this lil birb is a rufous collared sparrow. And something about its little face just made me think of whimsy, rage and all the different, important ways we can feel.
