I think what I love most about this crafty DIY is how little it requires in terms of materials and how flexible it is in terms of aesthetics and approach. I was wandering around my local Michaels when I saw these floral stems with eyeball flowers. At this point, I already had an eyeball theme in mind for my halloween decorations and I just knew that I could come up with something fun and creative inspired by these flowers.
Materials:
♥ Plastic Eyeballs (I got these plastic ping pong eyeballs from the dollar tree)
♥ Extra fine clear glitter
♥ Faux flowers
♥ Hot glue gun & hot glue sticks
Process
♥ Step One: The first step in creating these floral creatures is adding some sparkle. I am just *in the mood* for glitter these days. Out comes the glitter mod podge and I painted on a couple of thick coats. These took a while to dry, but I definitely think it was worth it. In future variations I might try adding some glow in the dark paint, or maybe painting my own eyeballs.
I low-key kinda love how gross and gooey the mod podge looks.
Once the glitter mod podge is fully dry, add a couple of coats of Clear Coat Spray. I lined up my eyeballs against a stick to help keep them in place while I sprayed them.
♥ Step Two: Disassemble your faux flowers. I didn't buy any flowers for this craft because I already have quite the floral stash on hand. However, I'd have to say my favorite spot for picking up fake flowers these days is your local thrift store! In Buffalo I frequently hit up Savers & AMVETS.
♥ Step Three: Play around with different petal combinations. I found that I really liked when I layers petals from a variety of different flowers, exploring contrasting color and textures. The little plastic bits are great to tuck in as well, adding even more bizarre details. These stamens look fabulous around the eyeballs.
♥ Step Four: Re-attach your stem to the base of the eyeball flower. Secure with hot glue.
I really loved how well these pink toned flowers mixed in with all the oranges and yellows of my other seasonal stems. I tucked the eyeball blooms into a few different arrangements on the porch, but I think an entire wreath made out of these would be amazing! How would you use them??
